For Thanksgiving week, Broadway San Jose brings in what is perhaps the top show of its current season: “The Color Purple,” a soul-stirring musical drawn from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the film by Steven Spielberg. The show opens Tuesday and runs through Nov. 28 at the Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $20-$88, www.broadwaysanjose.com. Note that there is no show on Thanksgiving, but there is a special matinee on Nov. 26. For its holiday offering, the San Jose Rep is bringing in something fresh: “Backwards in High Heels,” a play with music about the life of Ginger Rogers that is making its Bay Area debut. It opens Wednesday with a week of previews (Wednesday is the Rep’s Pay What You Will Night, one of the best bargains in town) with the official opening on Dec. 1. Tickets are $35-$73, www.sjrep.com.

“The experience is through the lens of the community, and that human perspective is pretty unique and exciting,” Snapchat spokeswoman Mary Ritti said. Snapchat is playing with ways to incorporate ads into the new features. It has slipped advertising in between clips in a few event-based Stories, but not yet into any city- or college-themed ones. It’s the latter group, however, that could widen Snapchat’s revenue potential as it taps into niche or regional advertisers in thousands of markets, not just national accounts such as Verizon Wireless and Sperry Top-Sider.
